Little Rock traffic court judge and puzzle enthusiast Vic Fleming is honoring much-lauded documentary Crawford this Friday by making it an answer in a crossword puzzle that will be published in The Daily Record, a local business data paper. In an accompanying article, Fleming says of the film, "You must see this documentary." Crawford is a glimpse into the lives of citizens of the small Texas town George W. Bush chose as his home upon announcing his bid for the presidency. His presence over the next few years caused significant changes to the quiet community, most of them not for the better. Given the political subject matter, Fleming praises first-time director and Austin resident David Modigliani for crafting such an even-handed account, and at the end of his article re-emphasizes, "See this film."
Fleming is no stranger to the world of documentary filmmaking. He appeared in the 2006 film Wordplay - a critically acclaimed look at competitive crossword puzzling - singing a song he wrote called "If You Don't Come Across (I'm Going To Be Down)."
You can read Fleming's article on Crawford and solve his puzzle in The Daily Record this Friday, May 16th. And you can see Crawford for yourself at the Little Rock Film Festival 7 p.m. Friday night at Riverdale #10, and again on Saturday at 11 a.m. Director David Modigliani will be present for both screenings and will answer questions after the film.
